Enrichment

Enrichment activities are a huge part of any Music department. They often provide the 'end product' for parents to see but this does not mean that they are more important than curriculum activities. Afterall, if a child does not have access to a stimulating and enjoyable Music curriculum, why would they want to spend time after school in Music activities?
Please note: for safeguarding reasons, children's identities have been protected on this site by pixelating certain areas of photos and by blurring videos. This has been done on purpose and is not an artistic effect.

Key Stage 2 Choir, Cairo, 2014
This video is of the 'Key Stage 2 Choir' that I set up whilst Head of Primary Music in Cairo. Prior to my arrival, the school had never had a choir in the Primary School. The choir was selected from children who went through an audition process.

DUCKS Sofa Singers
During the COVID-19 e-learning period, I organised the Sofa Singers choir which consisted of students from Nursery to Year 2, their parents and teachers. I provided all the resources for the parents and children to rehearse and record at home.

 DUCKS Choir
Due to COVID-19, the DUCKS Choir concert was cancelled and rehearsals were interrupted but I had managed to rehearse enough to ask the parents to record the children singing so that I could mix it together.
The school's theme was 'Be The Change' and so I asked the children to contribute ideas that I could use to re-write the lyrics of this song.

DUCKS Enrichment Activities
Listed below are some of the other Enrichment Activities that I organised for the DUCKS students. Although I organised the programme, I did not lead all of the sessions. The sessions offered were:
  • Family Choir
  • Reception Drum Circle
  • Music Technology
  • Y2 pBuzz
  • Year 1 Recorders
  • Year 2 Ukuleles
  • Y1 Choir
  • Y2 Choir
  • 'Take A Bow' String Orchestra

Key Stage 2 Singing Leaders
Whilst working as Head of Primary Music in Cairo, I took the opportunity to develop the leadership skills of the upper-primary students by helping them become 'Singing Leaders'.

I worked with the Singing Leaders during a lunchtime session to help them plan their activities and then they would deliver the sessions to their classes. This continued for all six Year 1 classes throughout the whole academic year.
